United for Action's Emergency Warming Center

Winter weather is not that far away. The warming center will again be available to those who have no place to get out of the cold. It is on track to open again November 25 through April 30, backed by the Town of Truckee and many local non-profit and faithbased organiza"ons and funders. Our greatest need? Volunteers to staff the EWC, which opens on our coldest nights from 5 pm to 8 am, giving our homeless neighbors shelter, dinner, and breakfast. Without enough volunteers signed up each night, we can’t open our doors to those out in the cold. Please sign up for one of our training sessions at Church of the Mountains by contacting our EWC Coordinator, Cathie Foley. Both parts (EWC 101 & 102) are offered back-to-back on: Sat 10/8 (9:30 am to 11:30 am) OR Sun 10/9 (4:00 to 6:00 pm)

EWC 101:
A 50-minute orienta"on to introduce you to the space, our guests’ demographics, and ways you can volunteer in this community effort.
EWC 102:
A1-hour follow-on class for those who want to staff the EWC on a night we’re open. You’ll learn the basics of EWC set-up, shifts and roles, interacting with our guests, and services we can offer them.

The Church of the Mountains in Truckee can receive donations as can the website handup.org/campaigns/emergencywarmingcenter.
